PITTSFORD, MI. – The Tekonsha Indians battled to a hard-fought split with Pittsford Thursday night, taking game one 4-0 before falling in game two 7-5.
Game one saw Tekonsha shut out Pittsford behind the strong pitching of Blake Griffith, going on to take the 4-0 win
Tekonsha scored two runs in the first inning and another two in the third after out hitting Pittsford 5-2 in the victory.
Griffith secured the win on the mound, throwing six full innings while allowing only two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Wyatt Blashfield led the Tekonsha offense with a 2 for 3 effort, recording a single and a double with one RBI and two runs scored.
Also adding to the Tekonsha win was Isaac Henry and Bo Veenkant with a single and a run scored; Dylan Griffith with a single and an RBI; and Blake Griffith with two RBis.
Game two of the night saw Pittsford open a 6-1 lead after two innings enroute to the 7-5 win. Tekonsha made things interesting late, scoring a run in the fourth inning and three in the sixth, however Pittsford added an insurance run in the top of the sixth and held off the Tekonsha offense to secure the win.
Isaac Henry took the loss on the mound for Tekonsha after throwing two innings in the start, allowing five hits and six runs with three walks and four strikeouts.
Bo Veenkant came in and pitched phenomenal in relief, throwing four innings while allowing only one run on six hits with 10 strikeouts. Veenkant also had a strong game at the plate, finishing 2 for 4 with a single and a double.
Also adding to the Tekonsha offense was Emmitt Blashfield with a single and a double with two RBis and a run scored; Isaac Henry with a single and a run scored; and Wyatt Blashfield, Blake Griffith, and Kyle Redd each with a run scored.
Tekonsha finishes the 2023 regular season at 14-7 overall. The Indians will next see action June 2 when they head to Colon for the D4 District tournament. Tekonsha will open play with the Athens Indians beginning at 12 p.m. with the winner moving on to face either Bellevue or Colon in the championship finale later that afternoon.
Quincy sweeps Barry County Christian
QUINCY, MI. – The Quincy Oriole varsity baseball team swept Barry County Christian Thursday night, taking wins of 4-3 and 3-2.
Game one of the doubleheader went to extra innings, with Quincy taking the 4-3 win in walk off fashion in the tenth inning.
Barry County scored a single run in the top of the tenth to lead 3-2, only to see Quincy come back with two runs in the bottom of the tenth to secure the walk off win. A Mickey Connin RBI single, driving in Hunter Tinervia, plated the winning run.
Mason Graves took the win on the mound after throwing five innings in relief, allowing two hits and one run with two walks and four strikeouts.
Mickey Connin led the offense with two singles and an RBI while Brady Mescher added a double, two walks and two runs scored.
Game two saw Barry County build an early 1-0 lead, only to see Quincy score a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 3-1. Barry County scored a single run in the seventh however the Oriole defense put away the game for the 3-2 win.
Brennen Allman notched the win on the mound after throwing two and two-thirds of an inning in relief, allowing four hits and one run with two walks and a strikeout.
Mason Graves recorded the save for Quincy, throwing the final two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.
Riley Miner, Hunter Tinervia and Grant Holroyd led the Quincy offense with two hits each while Brady Mescher drove in two runs. Mickey Connin also added an RBI for the Orioles win.
Quincy improves to 18-8 overall on the season with the two game sweep. Quincy will see the field one more time before the district tournament when they take on Lumen Christi on Saturday.
