BROC Feeney’s reputation as Supercars’ Mr Sunday only grew at Symmons Plains, with the Triple Eight young gun once again shining on the final day of an event.
Feeney snatched victory from under Erebus Motorsport’s nose in Race 2 of the Tasmania SuperSprint, before running down Brodie Kostecki to finish second in Race 3.
To this point in his career, Feeney has eight Supercars Championship podiums (including four wins) on Sundays compared to zero on Saturdays.
“I wish I was a Saturday man as well,” Feeney laughed.
“I don’t know the answer to that but for some reason I keep winning on Sundays.
“Hopefully we get a win on a Saturday soon but towards the end of the year there’s a couple of big races on Sunday so we’ll try to keep that up.”
To that end, the only racing leg of the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 will occur on the Sunday of those events, with both paying the winner 300 championship points.
Still, Feeney acknowledged he needs to start race meetings a little closer to the front rather than playing catch up.
“We’re obviously making gains across the weekend,” he said.
“I feel like we probably still had the pace to be on the podium (last Saturday at Symmons Plains) but obviously we got caught up in a bit of mess.
“I’m not too sure, I don’t want to just be good on Sundays, I want to be good across the whole weekend… it’s going to be something I work on in the future, making sure we’re quicker out of the gate.”
The 20-year-old holds fifth in the standings, just 19 points behind fourth-placed teammate Shane van Gisbergen.
Feeney is dovetailing his Supercars commitments this year with representing Triple Eight in both the Australian and Asian versions of GT World Challenge.
