A MasterChef judge has revealed the best bakeries in Australia – and you’ve probably never heard of them.
Pastry expert Andy Bowdy, who runs Saga Enmore in Sydney, has revealed the pastry cafe and bakeries across the country he thinks are best.
Ahead of the Cancer Council’s annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Andy has teamed up with De’Longhi to share his thoughts on the best bakeries across the country.
He told Daily Mail Australia that Tasmania, Alice Springs and Fremantle are home to some of the country’s best bakeries – alongside Sydney and Melbourne.
In Melbourne, many are familiar with the world-famous Lune Patisserie, but Andy recommends checking out Smith’s Cakes and Aquilana Pasticceria.
The Sicilian bakery, in Fitzroy, offers cannoli, gelato and biscuits.
Elsewhere, Sydneysiders should head to Penny Fours for the best pastries in the city.
The Balmain bakery offers quirky and savoury croissants, including, tahini custard, roasted eggplant, parsley and lemon croissants, poached pear, ricotta custard & walnuts croissant and freshly baked bread.
For those in Northern Territory, Alice Spring’s Alice Bakery is one of the best in the country, according to Andy.
The bakery offers ’pastry made from real butter, doughnuts with hand crafted fillings, creative pies made fresh from top quality, locally sourced meats and vegetables,’ according to its website.
Locals also love the cafe’s gourmet sandwiches on freshly baked sourdough and artisan breads.
The Ross Village Bakery and Inn is the best in Tasmania – according to Andy.
The bakery has been operating on the site for more than 100 years.
Every day they heat the over to 700F where they bake pies, pastries, breads, buns and cakes.
Meanwhile, Western Australians will have to head to Fremantle to enjoy the best pastries in the country.
Family-run sandwich shop Eat Peggys sells the likes of kimchi and cheese tin loaf, BLT on fresh focaccia and schnitty in a sub.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a community event that raises vital funds to make a big difference for those impacted by cancer.
Australians can host a morning tea and participate throughout the remainder of May and the entirety of June.
