A man who stabbed another in the chest narrowly avoiding his heart and lungs has been jailed for nine years. Michail Michailov left his victim with a 10cm chest wound in a “seemingly unprovoked” attack in Bognor Regis.
Police said Michailov had been drinking with three other people at a flat in Bersted Green Court when for unknown reasons he attacked one of them on the afternoon of February 10 last year.
The victim, a man aged 52, was rushed to hospital, where it was confirmed the knife just missed his heart and lungs. Michailov fled the scene but he was found by police and arrested.

Michailov, 53, of Upper Bognor Road, Bognor Regis, was charged with grievous bodily harm. In police interview he answered “no comment” to all questions, but admitted the offence in court.
At Lewes Crown Court on April 13, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with an extended period of five years. Investigating officer Detective Constable Ash O’Mahony, of Sussex Police, said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack on the victim, who is fortunate to have not suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries.
“Nevertheless, there was clear intent by Michailov to harm him, and the courts have recognised this by the sentence imposed.”
