Under the pressure of everything, Leticia begins to lash out at her son for his obesity. Leticia begins to physically and emotionally abuse her son, whereas, at the same time, Musgrove is executed. Hank loses his son to suicide after he admits to him hating him from the start. Loaded with guilt, Hank retires and buys a gas pump to distract himself. Hank and Leticia begin to date each other after Hank helps Leticia with her son and after he dies. The film ends with Leticia and Hank together, hoping for a better future.
