Here are the top stories in Roswell today:
- Roswell police are working a case involving a shooting that occurred on April 6 on Liberty Trace in Roswell. Police were called to a residence on Parkmont Drive and found 26-year-old man with a wound to the chest, but he didn’t want to receive medical care at the scene. Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred at another home on Liberty Trace. The residents at that home were taken to the police department for further questioning. The case is still being investigated. (Appen Media)
- Sen. Jon Ossoff was in town on Monday, May 22 and met with local leadership and first responders to discuss a new bill that would benefit public servants in the state. The Helper Act is a bipartisan legislation that would aid paramedics, teachers, police, and firefighters with buying their first home through a one-time loan program. One of the goals of the proposed legislation is to help public servants live in the communities in which they serve. Sen. Ossoff said that costs for the taxpayers will be kept in mind, and if the bill passes, these qualified individuals can receive a mortgage without a down payment. (GPB)
- After a traffic stop on Holcomb Bridge Road on April 30, an Atlanta man was arrested for driving a stolen rental car as well as having stolen plates. Highway cameras detected the stolen tag as the car drove toward the La Quinta Inn in Roswell. The vehicle was pulled over in the hotel parking lot. After questioning the individual, officers found that the license plate was indeed stolen from a man in Sandy Springs and the car was taken from a rental shop. The man’s license was suspended, and he was also found to be on parole violation in Colorado. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail. (Appen Media)
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently stated that about 70 million gallons of paint are left over and left sitting idle annually across the nation. Although storing used paint is better than throwing it in the garbage, the EPA recommends that the paint be recycled and reused. The City of Roswell wants to help residents do just that. For a fee, the Roswell Recycling Center will collect used paint from residents to be recycled. There are, however, stipulations on how much paint one can bring to the center and how often one can do so. The current price to recycle one container is $3.15, however, the price will increase to $3.31 per can beginning on July 1. Not all paint types are accepted. The City of Roswell has full details and instructions on how to get rid of used paint on their website. (City of Roswell)
