Don your beach hat and throw your thongs in your suitcase: Canberrans will soon be able to fly direct to Fiji.
It’s the first international route out of Canberra since 2020 and it’s giving Canberrans a direct route out of its frosty winter to the warm beaches of Fiji.
Starting in July, the new route will operate twice a week from July 21 to the end of September, and three times a week from October onwards.
The inaugural flight will zoom down the runway on the July 21, 2023 with bookings now open for guests.
Return fares from Canberra to Nadi range from $499 to $900 AUD, depending on the dates you travel. Business Class return airfares, meanwhile, are available from $2,960 AUD.
All economy fares include meals, drinks, inflight entertainment and carry-on baggage up to 7kg. With a value fare, you get 30kg of checked baggage.
Speaking of the new route, Fiji Airways CEO, André Viljoen said: “We are thrilled to bring our world-class service to Canberra and connect Australia’s capital directly with our beautiful home, Fiji. We look forward to welcoming our customers on board and sharing the world-renowned Fijian hospitality that sets us apart.”
The new route brings Fiji Airways’ total number of direct services to Fiji to 22. Fiji Airways is now the only airline in the world to offer direct flights from Canberra to Nadi.

Viliame Gavoka, who attended the official unveiling ceremony in Canberra expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, stating, “This new direct flight route between Canberra and Nadi is a testament to the strong partnership between the Fijian and Australian governments, and we are pleased to work with Fiji Airways, Canberra Airport, and Visit Canberra to make this service a reality.”

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr welcomed the new route, and said direct flights from Canberra to Fiji would be popular. “This is a really exciting development and marks the return of international flights to Canberra,” he said.
“Last year, I visited Fiji as part of the discussions between Fiji Airways and the ACT Government about this service and I’m excited to see a positive outcome. I have no doubt Canberrans and those across our region will be keen to make the most of this direct flight and experience everything these beautiful islands have to offer.”
