I’m in and out early on Wednesday at Sale with two horses from an astute Sydney stable before the best bet of the day.
SHADOWIST (Race 2 No 3) I’m going to back the judgement of the Mathew Smith stable at Warwick Farm, surely they wouldn’t send an unraced horse to Victoria unless it had ability. It trialled up ok back in November in Sydney but does look to have taken a step on its two Pakenham jumpouts this prep for a solid win and the latest where it was looking for longer than the short 800m. With good speed the grey gelding will put itself right on pace and around one turn in a weak race it should take catching. BET: WIN
SHEBRINGS BEAUTY (Race 3 No 6) Looking for a minor upset going on the early betting and again finding one from the Mathew Smith stable. The Sebring filly was strong on debut on a dry track before not handling the heavy two starts back. She then stepped to 1200m onto a much drier surface and worked home strong like a filly looking for longer. Drawn for the right run midfield and perfectly suited getting out to 1400m, she could prove a touch too strong for the favourite that’s had plenty of chances. BET: WIN
UPWOODS (Race 4 No 5) Black odds would be a good price about what looks the best of good things in the Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr)-trained gelding. He went super on debut before given a lengthy spell and returning over the mile at Pakenham, he did a stack of work early, did a bit wrong and still only went down late. Fitter and drawn to do no work in the run, if he gets clear air or they let him control the speed, I can’t see them getting near the son of Redwood. BET: WIN
