Get ready to grab your dancing shoes, because Lifeline is here to twist their way into the Guinness World Records—and it goes like this!
I’m sure everyone can remember a time in which they dreamed about being a part of the book of Guinness World Records. It’s certainly not an easy feat, but Lifeline Canberra is here to prove that dreams do come true this October.
Lifeline is calling for 5,000 participants to help them break the World Twist Record, which was previously set by 3,040 people in Mississippi back in 2014. The World Record requires everyone to dance the twist for five minutes simultaneously and continuously. Held around Lake Burley Griffin between the Kings Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue bridges on Sunday 8 October, this attempt at breaking the World Record will raise much needed funds for Lifeline.
Now, you will need to register prior to this event by booking online – the registration fee for adults is $26 (which is the cost of a life-changing call!), while the fee for students and children is $13. Want to bring the whole family along? No problems! Register as a family of two adults and two children for $52. Keep in mind that children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Once registered, you’ll receive a QR code that will be scanned on the day to record your participation in the record-breaking attempt. Then, on Sunday, check in will start at 9am, and the Twist Record attempt will be at 10am. Tune into Mix 106.3 FM for the countdown and music!
Lifeline Canberra is a suicide prevention service that provides immediate crisis support to individuals, and proactively builds mental health resilience in our community. This vital service is always there for all Canberrans 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and it relies on important fundraising events such as the World Twist Record attempt, and the ever-popular Lifeline Book Fair. A Canberran is lost every week to suicide, and $26 is all it takes for Lifeline to fight to save the next life. Concerned about your ability to twist? You can always support Lifeline by donating directly to the organisation on their website.
Remember, there is hope—Lifeline is here for you. If you are experiencing mental health issues or suicidal feelings, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14. If it’s an emergency, please call 000.
