Variety Bash fundraising couple Tracey Rex and Stuart Black have embarked on another mammoth Variety Bash journey.
The Variety Bash, an iconic event which happens across Australia, raises money for children in need.
For Tracey, her bash participation spans 20 years while Stuart has now been taking part for nine years.
“Seeing where the funds go, the schools and the children … it’s great. The children are so excited,” Tracey said.
The couple held their famous cake stalls leading up to the bash, all contributing to their mammoth $12,000 total.
“Narrabri supports our cake stalls really well,” Tracey said.
“I have the best mother-in-law in Claire Black who cooks the best slices and cakes.”
This year’s NSW Variety Bash kicked off in Dubbo on Sunday and journeys south to Echuca and then winds its way back through inland NSW to Newcastle, ending on May 27.
The Variety Bash supports Variety, the children’s charity, helping kids from all backgrounds who are sick, disadvantaged or living with special needs to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Each year, thousands of children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, turn to Variety for practical support when they need it most.
The work of Variety allows kids to gain mobility, to get out and about in the community, to communicate, achieve independence and increase their self-esteem.
Variety ensures the kids who miss out, can always join in. Variety does this through granting equipment, supplies, and therapy to individuals and community organisations, running programs to educate and empower kids, scholarships to encourage the talents of kids in need and holding events to engage and bring joy.
Last year, Variety spent $2.35 million on helping children in need.
The Narrabri couple is dedicated to the cause putting huge efforts into fundraising over those years.
Last year, the couple embarked on the NSW Variety Bash and then later took part in the longer B to B Bash.
Tracey and Stuart enjoy hitting the open road and making a difference in the lives of children who are in need.
“We enjoy seeing the smiles it brings to children’s faces,” Tracey said.
“The children colour in pictures of Variety Bash cars. You can see it brings them a lot of joy.”
