Hinchinbrook Shire Mayor Ramon Jayo has confirmed that the council CEO has resigned after just two-and-a-half years. Read why.
Mr Tytherleigh, who has been contacted for comment, was sworn in as chief executive officer in December 2021 after previously serving as human resources manager of the Toowoomba Regional Council.
Cr Jayo said Mr Tytherleigh had resigned to take up the role of general manager at the Moree Plains Shire Council in northwestern New South Wales.
“Small towns like ours are always stepping stones to bigger councils,” he said.
“They get the experience in the smaller councils and that opens the door up for them to get to the bigger councils and obviously the bigger the council there is more money.”
The Hinchinbrook Shire Council is classified as a Category 1 council, the smallest of eight local government categories.
Mr Tytherleigh was understood be earning slightly more than $200,000 per year in Ingham.
The Moree Plains Shire Council said Mr Tytherleigh’s five-year appointment would begin in mid-June.
Mr Tytherleigh and wife Anne, who resided in Forrest Beach, were a fixture at various social and formal engagements around the Shire.
Cr Jayo said an acting CEO had be appointed for up to six months, starting on Monday, to allow for the recruitment of a new council head.
“We thank Kelvin for his time and effort … we thank him for his services and wish him all the best in his new endeavour.”
