I’ve always loved combat sports.
When I was four, I started practicing hee-Tae-Kwon-Do, a non-contact martial art.
It was my passion for a long time.
By 11, I started feeling like I was ready for something more challenging.
So, I started boxing.
It was everything I had hoped for and consumed most of my time that year.
That was until COVID forced training to stop.
This wasn’t going to stop me. Despite not having any equipment, I continued practising.
Once restrictions were eased, I was more motivated than ever.
I set the goal to compete in my first fight. I started training six days a week and went for runs every morning.
My first two fights were against a very talented boxer. I didn’t win.
I lost my third fight due to a split decision.
My fourth fight was in my hometown, the guy was 3 kilograms heavier than me.
I knew all my family and friends were going to be there, so I needed to stay focused and give it my all.
In the second round, I stopped the guy by TKO, meaning I bet him before the fight ended which boosted my confidence and scored me a match. Win!
I now compete in fights once a month. Every fight has taught me something. I’ve won the three most recent tournaments.
I am now a state champion with the goal of becoming an Australian champion.
Boxing has taught me a lot about confidence, discipline, respect, and hard work.
The more I push myself in the ring, the more I can see positive changes in my life.
