Owen Leroy (Poco) Deardorff, 65, peacefully left this earthly life in Niarada on Thursday, May 4th, 2023.
Owen was born in Hot Springs, Mt oldest child to Alice (Antoine) and Edward (Slim) Deardorff on January 12, 1958. In his teens, he was taken in by the Rankin family in Alberton and had fond memories of that time. He was involved in high school sports and was a good friend to many. Following graduation, he enlisted in the army. This took him across the United States as far as Alaska and overseas to Germany. Upon returning to the reservation, he worked various jobs, even working with his brother LD. He was a hard worker and well-respected leader. In the fall of 1997, his future made a huge turn when he was injured and became a quadriplegic. After a year of rehab, he returned to his own home which was his favorite place of solitude. With the support of many caregivers over the years, and his dedication to learning about and managing his own wellness, Owen was able to remain there until his passing. His other constant companions were his animals, especially his cats and all the outdoor wildlife.
Owen was preceded in death by his mother, Alice, his father Slim, a brother in infancy Jay Deardorff, brother Rick Lozeau, sister Peggy Antoine, and niece Cara McNulty.
He is survived by his son Chad Deardorff of Alaska, granddaughter, Meadow in Helena, Mt, his siblings: LD Keele, Janita Von Heeder, Jobi Ash, Erma Garrison, Dallas Deardorff, Travis Deardorff, David Goodman, Jay Goodman and Shelly Christensen and their families. Also left to cherish his memory are Larrissa and Diane.
Services were provided by Fosters Funeral home in St. Ignatius. A memorial service will be held this summer date to be determined.
