The best thing about winter? It’s truffle season!
There’s something about those funky black lumps – we just can’t seem to get enough. In Australia, truffle season runs from June to August, which means it’s almost prime-time to sample some of our world-famous ‘black diamonds’.
To celebrate the fantastic fungi, the Queen Victoria Market is hosting a truffle tasting tour. Follow your knowledgeable tour guide through the iconic market and stop by stalls to try truffle-infused creations, all while learning about the history and growing practices of the culinary delicacy.

Make sure you bring an appetite, because there will be a wide range of truffle snacks for you to sample, including truffle salami, truffle honey, truffle pasta, truffle oil, truffle cheese and more. And don’t think they forgot about dessert – satisfy your sweet tooth with a decadent chocolate truffle.
Australia is the fourth-largest producer of the Périgord black truffle in the world, with over 450 truffle orchards spread across the country. Because winter in the southern hemisphere is at a different time than in most of the world, it gives us a competitive edge in the industry as we can harvest and export our truffles in the global off-season.
While most Australian truffles come out of WA, we have a few of our own truffle farms in Victoria, in Yarra Valley, on the Mornington Peninsula and just outside of Ballarat. Expect to sample some delicious local delights on the market tour.
