2023 Female Football Week (FFW) is taking place between May 19-28 with the country uniting to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of women and girls in football.
Launched in 2014, Female Football Week has become a highlight in the annual football calendar. The theme #LoveOurGame is a celebration of Australian women’s football and encourages participants to embrace their love for the world game and its positive impacts.
Throughout the week, we encourage Clubs to feature content on women and girls. Tag in Football Victoria and use the #LoveOurGame hashtag and we’ll help amplify your content.
Clubs across the state are getting involved with events planned across the week, and below is a list of some of the events taking place.
EVENTS
- South Melbourne Women’s Football Club
SMWFC is a vibrant and growing community, that prides itself on developing young girls’ love of the game.
The Club will be holding a Gala Day on Saturday, May 27 at Princess Park, Caulfield between 11 am- 4 pm to wrap up FFW.
There will be three junior matches, the Club will be launching its GO Soccer Mums program and there will be a host of activities for everyone on the day.
Mt Eliza SC has planned a U14 Girls v U15 Girls v Parents match between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm on Sunday, May 21.
- Hampton Brighton East Football Club
Hampton East FC will celebrate their home game on Sunday, May 21 with free food for all players, family, and supporters in the clubhouse.
Glen Eira will be celebrating females in football with plenty of activities throughout the week for all to enjoy.
The Club has created a mini World Cup tournament for all female players and will be introducing GO Soccer Mums with a come-and-try day organised for all new players.
These events are set up to celebrate, support, and mentor the women and girls at the club, their successes, and their pathways within football.
Glen Eira will be running a GO Soccer Mums program for the first time and providing opportunities within the game (coaching, umpiring) for all females involved at the Club.
- Chisolm United Football Club
Chisolm United FC will be celebrating females in football Thursday, May 25 between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm following training.
- Moreland City Football Club
Moreland City FC will be hosting a free dinner for female club members as well as a female-focused event on Friday, May 26 where there will be a mother and daughter walking football game, crossbar challenge, and bring a friend to training initiative.
South Yarra SC is choosing to support the charity campaign of one of its VPLW players – Destiny Rescue which aims at ending child sex trafficking.
In the lead-up to their Sunday, May 21 home match and on game day they will promote awareness for the work of Destiny Rescue and encourage support through donations, education, and other activations
This event recognises the importance of supporting causes close to the heart of its community and provides a real and actionable change in line with the spirit of loving our game.
There will be three matches on the day, with the canteen e fully stocked, and dinner organised at the end of the game day for all attendees, with proceeds going to Destiny Rescue.
Keilor Park SC will be hosting a Women In Football Afternoon Tea on Saturday, May 27 to recognise and celebrate the amazing achievements of women in football and to inspire future generations of women to get involved in the sport.
- Monash University Soccer Club
Monash University SC has organised a Bring Your Mum to Monash event on Sunday, May 28.
The Club is attempting to raise as much money as possible for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, all players on the day wear pink socks (with proceeds donated), and there is a heap of activities such as a penalty shootout for Mums.
- St Albans Saints Soccer Club
St Albans SC is hosting a come and try day and Ladies’ Breakfast on Sunday, May 28 with mothers and daughters welcome.
- Gippsland United Football Club
To celebrate FFW, Gippsland United FC will be hosting a GUFC Women’s State League Double Header.
On Sunday, May 21 the Club’s two State League Women’s sides will be playing at home for the first time this year.
Following a successful 2022 Female Football Week, Futsal Ballarat is running two events this year, along with weekly promotions and giveaways.
These events will occur on Monday, 22 May, and Friday, 26 May followed by the commencement of a girls’ only competition following the event.
