Sydney Kingsford International Airport is getting closer to achieving pre-pandemic movement levels, according to data from RadarBox.com.
May 9-16, in particular, highlights a spike in weekly movements as the airport gets ready for what will be a busy Summer 2023 season.
Without further ado, let’s get into the number…
Sydney Kingsford’s Numbers…
For May 9-16, the airport handled 916 movements, which is an increase of 14.07% compared to the same period last year.
This figure is around 50 movements short of the 2019 levels, where 966 movements were handled, which shows how close Sydney Kingsford is getting to this figure.
Below is the last four weeks’ worth of data for the airport:
Date | 2019 Numbers | 2022 Numbers | 2023 Numbers | Percentage Difference (2023 vs. 2022) |
April 11-18 | 980 movements | 829 movements | 879 movements | +6.03% |
April 18-25 | 970 movements | 819 movements | 884 movements | +7.94% |
April 25-May 2 | 986 movements | 814 movements | 855 movements | +5.04% |
May 2-9 | 955 movements | 819 movements | 849 movements | +3.66% |
What we can see from the data is that Sydney Kingsford Airport has just entered its peak period for the Summer season, with the four weeks previous offering lower percentage increases compared to May 9-16.
With that upward trajectory now looking very likely, it is going to be interesting to see how much closer the airport can get to pre-COVID levels or whether they will indeed exceed it the further we get into June, July, and August.
But for now, all eyes are on the airport to see what comes next.
