Sandown horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:10) Ladbrokes Odds Surge Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Lady in Pink @ $2.15
Lady in Pink looked good when placing at Sandown last start and having track experience helps her cause.
The two-year-old filly by Pariah was under a length behind the winner and we don’t think the opposition is any harder here.
$2.15 could firm to an odds-on price on Sunday.
Race 2. (12:50) Ladbrokes Australian Steeplechase (3900m)
#2 – Britannicus @ $3.30
Britannicus won at Warrnambool last time out and there’s no reason not to stick with him.
The eight-year-old owns five wins and five second placings over the jumps, and he defeated Flying Agent last time out.
Punters get fair odds for the second favourite and he’s worth backing.
Race 3. (13:30) Ladbrokes Hub BM78 (2100m)
#2 – Ferago @ $4.20
Ferago is a model of consistency with four wins and five placings from 18 starts, including a win at Moonee Valley two back.
The Ryan-trained six-year-old finished second at his only start at Sandown, so we fancy his chances of going one better.
Having Craig Williams in the saddle doesn’t hurt his chances.
Race 4. (14:10) Ladbroke It Hurdle (3400m)
#2 – Impulsar @ $2.90
Impulsar made a winning start to his jumping career at Warrnambool when scoring by 2.8 lengths in an exciting finish.
The Maher/Eustace-trained son of Frankel came to Australia with good form and he could have a bright future as a jumper.
Most of the money has come for him throughout the week, which is a good sign.t
Race 5. (14:45) Ladbrokes Australian Hurdle (3900m)
#1 – Saunter Boy @ $1.40
Punters must take short odds for Saunter Boy, but he should boost multi-bet payouts.
The 10-year-old won by 2.5 lengths as the odds-on favourite at Warrnambool, and he should repeat the dose.
With 11 wins from 15 starts over the jumps, the Maher/Eustace-trained champion can’t be overlooked, despite the short odds.
Race 6. (15:15) Ladbrokes Communities BM70 (1600m)
#10 – Funnyifitwon @ $4.60
Funnyifitwon comes off back-to-back wins at Mildura and Sale, so he’s a runner worth following.
The four-year-old son of Starcraft has been primed with two soft trial efforts, so he should be fresh and ready to fire.
The Patrick Payne stable often has success at Sandown.
Race 7. (15:45) Ladbrokes Racing Club BM64 (1400m)
#12 – Punch Lane @ $6.50
Punch Lane secured a maiden victory at Seymour last time out, and we fancy his chances of winning again.
The three-year-old son of So You Think scored by 1.8 lengths as the $2.20 favourite, so punters get better odds this time around.
He has since scored a trial win, so it points towards a good showing.
Race 8. (16:25) Samson BM70 (1400m)
#12 – Defiant Diva @ $7
Defiant Diva is getting close to posting an overdue win after a string of solid efforts in defeat.
The five-year-old mare owns a win and three placings from four starts at Sandown, and she doesn’t mind the sting out of the ground.
Barrier 13 makes it harder but Williams rides.
