A man has died after being struck by a truck in the state’s north, prompting a forensic crash unit investigation and appeal from police for footage. UPDATES
It’s understood the man was hit near the Brandy Bottle Camping and Recreation Reserve, a popular stop for travellers in the Isaac region, north of Mackay.
According to Queensland Ambulance Service, paramedics were called to the scene where a “body was found on the side of the road” just before 7am.
Police at the scene and the campsite manager were unable to provide further details.
However, Queensland Police Service later released a statement confirming police had been called to the scene about 6.45am following reports a man had been struck.
“The 40-year-old suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the statement read
“The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Anyone who passed through the area at the time who may have relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact police.”
The Bruce Highway remained closed for several hours while emergency services combed the scene.
It was reopened about 11.15am.
More to come.
