Moon Knight vs Superman isn’t a fight anyone could expect the First of Khonshu to win, and yet Marc Spector is about to plunge into basically that conflict – and even Kryptonite can’t save him. This summer, Marvel will publish Contest of Chaos, an event that will pit Marvel’s greatest heroes against one another. Now, Marvel has unveiled some of the titanic throwdowns that will take place, including a showdown between Moon Knight and the super powerful Taegukgi of the Tiger Division – a hero whose powers are on the same level as the Man of Steel.
Moon Knight Annual #1 will be written by regular Moon Knight scribe Jed MacKay, drawn by Creees Lee, and have a cover by Leinil Francis Yu. Contest of Chaos will see heroes forced to fight by dark magic, and Moon Knight Annual #1 ties-in to the event, seeing Marc Spector face his greatest battle yet: the mega-powerful Taegukgi, the leader of the Tiger Division, South Korea’s resident superhero team. Moon Knight will need every bit of his extensive training to win this one, as Taegukgi is the equal of Marvel’s strongest heroes. Enjoy the cover and issue summary below:
It’s Moon Knight vs Taegukgi in the Contest of Chaos
The forces of chaos compel Earth’s heroes to go head-to-head with each other! When the champion of a god battles a godlike champion, who will win? The Fist of Khonshu faces off against Tiger Division’s fearless leader: It’s MOON KNIGHT vs. TAEGUKGI in a power-packed showdown!
The two combatants in this fight initially seem to be severely mismatched. Moon Knight has no superpowers, and must rely instead on high-tech gadgets and weapons, as well as his excellent fighting skills; this has led him to being called “Marvel’s Batman” by some – though his mystic ties and ultra-violent tactics mean that’s not accurate. Likewise, Marvel has a number of equivalents to Superman as well: Hyperion, the Blue Marvel, the Sentry – and Taegukgi. The leader of the Tiger Division, Taegukgi has many of Superman’s powers, such as flight, super-strength, invulnerability and heat vision. First appearing in 2021’s Taskmaster #3, Taegukgi has been discussed as on par with the Sentry, making him all but unbeatable by a non-powered human.
How Can Moon Knight Win Against Taegukgi?
Despite being on a similar power level to Superman, Taegukgi has no known ‘Kryptonite’ that can even the playing field, but recently Moon Knight has been experimenting with new uses for his mystic connection to the Egyptian god Khonshu. While Moon Knight has no specific magical powers, he exists in communion with the supernatural, and can do things like striking a deal with the dead or calling on Khonshu to open a teleportation passage between two places. If Moon Knight gets creative with his abilities, he may be able to find a way to stop Taegukgi – especially with chaotic dark magic at the heart of their conflict.
Pretty much no-one would back Moon Knight against any Superman-class enemy, but Marc Spector has made a career of taking on unbeatable odds and somehow walking away intact – hopefully, he can bring that same luck and creativity to his fight against Taegukgi when the Contest of Chaos begins.
Moon Knight Annual #1 is coming August 30 from Marvel Comics.
