As part of the squadron’s 45th annual review at Goderich District Collegiate Institute on Wednesday, May 24, the young cadets had a chance to show the reviewing officer, friends and family the skills they had learned since September.
The cadets, aged 12 to 18, took part in the ceremonial parade and inspection by the reviewing officer, Lt. Col. (Retired) Kenn Voss. Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, Goderich Deputy Mayor Trevor Bazinet and local service club representatives were also in attendance.
Capt. Christine Lapp, commanding officer of 532 Maitland Squadron, said the cadets had worked hard this year to persevere after two years of hybrid training. She said she was proud of the commitment the cadets showed this year as they returned to full-time in-person training, determined to share their leadership skills, drill and camaraderie at the final parade. She said involvement in the cadet program promotes teamwork, physical fitness and good citizenship.

This past year, the 532 Air Cadets participated in several events, including effective speaking, the ARISS program, which involved contacting an astronaut, Radio Club, fall and spring training exercises, Christmas mess dinner, leadership training day and sports, alongside the regular training.
While this was the final meeting for the cadets until September, many members will be heading off to participate in camp this summer, including cadets who will attend glider along with staff.
Voss spoke highly of the squadron, adding he was proud of their drill, dress, and deportment, and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
A number of awards were presented during the review.
