Get into the Olympic spirit and celebrate moving, learning, discovering and getting active on international Olympic Day on 23 June 2023.
From free and affordable classes, events and activities to our community facilities, we’ve wrapped up five Olympic sports you can try.
1. Swimming
Whether you’re getting ready to take the block at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, or just swimming for fun, there’s ample opportunity to dive in and make a splash at a Council pool. Find your groove at aqua aerobics, discover your zen at aqua yoga, or increase your heart rate in a deep water running class. Best of all, the majority of our pools are heater throughout winter, meaning you can keep swimming through the cooler months.
2. Skateboarding
Only debuting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, skateboarding is one of the newest Olympic sports. Find a Council skate park to skate your way towards your Olympic dream. Find skate classes and workshops to take you from beginner to seasoned, boardsliding, kickflipping skater.
3. Cycling
Make the most of Brisbane’s bikeways and attend a class to improve your cycling skills. From maintaining your bike, to guided rides and BMX skills sessions, there’s a class for all ages and skill levels.
4. Basketball
Whether you have enough players for a team or 1-on-1, have a go at basketball. BYO ball and slam dunk at one of Council’s 200 plus parks with basketball courts.
5. Table tennis
Bring your own bats or borrow them from a local ward office to play a thrilling match of table tennis with friends. Outdoor table tennis tables are available in several Brisbane parks and are free for everyone to use, with many sporting spectacular views of the Brisbane River.
