The new Toyota Gazoo Racing TG86 for use in the 2024 TGRA 86 series is on sale to prospective racers now, developed and built by Neal Bates Motorsport.
Unveiled late last year at Bathurst, the race ready $89,990 turkey package is now available to customers outside of the current series competitors for anyone wishing to race in the 2024 TGRA 86 series.
Built and developed exclusively by Neal Bates Motorsport, the car will be available from May 29 for use in one of Australia’s most popular Supercars support categories.
Based on the GR86 road car, it’s delivered to customers as a completely race ready machine for the five round series as of next year.
The new GR86 race car features a full roll cage, race seat and six-point harness, motorsport spec steering wheel, ECU and instruments, control wheels and tyres, and upgraded suspension, brakes, exhaust, oil cooler and clutch.
Maximum engine power and torque is approximately 10 per cent greater than the standard GR86 road car’s outputs of 174kW/250Nm and the race car is approximately 70kg lighter than the GR86.
It offers an advanced performance improvement, going from a 2.0L to a 2.4L engine, giving an extra 20kw of power.
As well as being faster, the new Toyota racing car has had some minor tweaks made to the shock absorber package and rear suspension, with the shock absorber travel and rear spring rates having changes.
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer, Vin Naidoo, says the new TG86 will add even more quality to the important pathway series.
“Neal Bates and his team have worked hard to make the new GR86 an incredibly sharp, affordable racecar and with its introduction from 2024, we expect the competition and racing action to get even more exciting for drivers and fans alike,” Naidoo explained.
“As a one-make series with near identical race cars, TGRA 86 Series has been an excellent environment for drivers to learn and hone their skills and Toyota is proud to continue to support the series through to at least the end of 2026,” Mr Naidoo said.
The first driver to receive the turnkey package was 2022 TGRA 86 Series Kaizen Award winner, Jarrod Hughes. The talented young driver gave his thoughts on the new ride.
“The Toyota 86 has been a fantastic car to race these past couple of years but the GR86 takes it to a whole new level,” Hughes said.
“With more power and torque and much sharper handling, it’s so much quicker through the corners and the feel and feedback you get just inspires greater confidence to push on harder.
“Neal and the crew at NBM have done an awesome job in turning what was a significantly improved road car into a real track weapon and I can’t wait to line up on the grid for the first race in 2024.”
