A new service from Melbourne to Heron Island is a Marine National Park on the World Heritage List that travellers can visit from Gladstone. There are a lot of manta rays, turtles, and coral reefs on the island. Travellers can also access beach towns like Agnes Water and The Town of 1770 from Gladstone, which has a relatively unexplored coastline.
Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza, who was at Gladstone to greet the first customers from Melbourne, said:
“Today’s new route is a good example of Bonza’s mission to open up new markets for domestic tourism,”
The New Service
Customers from southeastern Australia, like Victorians, now have more event options with lower cost charges thanks to Bonza’s most memorable client departure from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Gladstone. The new twice-weekly service, which will operate on Mondays and Thursdays and cost $89 per person (one way), was created with long weekends in mind.
Mayor Burnett said:
“The Gladstone Region has more than 10,000 square kilometres to explore on land alone and coupled with all the breathtaking islands located on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, it’s easy to see why Bonza has chosen Gladstone as one of its regional routes,”
Jordan said:
“The new route also opens up opportunities for locals in and around Gladstone to take a city break in Melbourne. Getting to an iconic Aussie event, like the Melbourne Cup or the Australian Open, just got a whole lot more affordable,”
Burnett also added
“Two flights a week is a fantastic start and opens the door for more tourists to visit our region while offering our residents a quick and convenient flight to explore everything Melbourne has to offer.”
Culture, Society and Technology
Leading in Art and Design, RMIT is a global university established as the Working Men’s College in 1887 with the intention of providing education to Melbourne’s working class. There are 16 academic schools and four colleges that offer courses.
RMIT University, where students research Art, Design and Culture, Society and Environment and Technology, were invited as guests of Bonza’s new flight service.
Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza said:
“We are thrilled to have the industry’s future talent onboard with us today. It’s a small way that we can support the growth of aviation’s talent pool in Australia,”
Jordan added:
“It also gives Gladstone residents direct access to Australia’s capital of food, sport and culture along with our huge calendar of major events, so there’s always a good reason for a long weekend getaway!”
The Initiative
Every airline must ensure that there is sufficient demand for passengers to support the route and make it profitable before launching a new route. Knowing the number of individuals that will probably fly on the course is also vital to picking the aeroplane to work the new course. The amount that individuals are prepared to pay for this specific flight is another critical point.
With only this one more route initiative available for launch from Bonza’s base in Melbourne, Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said:
“Bonza is making it much easier for Victorians to explore new parts of Australia by opening up previously un-served destinations such as Gladstone, and we expect there’ll be plenty of Melbournians keen to see what the region has to offer.”
