Racing at the 120th IRA Regatta starts Friday morning on Mercer Lake, with a race for lanes in the Men’s Lightweight 2V event at 8 am, and then it is right into heats for the HWT Varsity National Championship, to be followed by the heats for the Men’s LWT Natty. Heats for the 1Vs contesting the second year of the new D3 Men’s Championship will be mid-morning on Friday, squeezed between the 2V and 3V heats for the D1 teams.
Racing for the Women’s Lightweight national title starts on Saturday. You can go here to see the full three-day schedule, and first round lane assignments.
You can find the schedule, draws, tickets, and rankings here, but of course, racing at the IRA tends to throw seeds out the window, so we suggest just tuning in to see it all unfold live.

Results, Schedule & Seedings
Some storylines we will be tracking in our coverage of the 120th IRA this weekend:
- Cal, the 2022 Champ and #1 seed, will be looking for its 1st pair of back-to-back wins (an 19th overall) since the Bear’s four-peat run from 1999-2002, under then head coach…
- Steve Gladstone, the former Cal (and Brown) coach now coaching Yale in his final year (following the announcement of his retirement last December), who has the chance this weekend to pass Cornell’s Charles “Pops” Courtney for the most IRA titles by a coach if his Sprints Champion Yale crew wins the Eli’s fourth title under his watch this weekend. Gladstone is currently tied with Courtney at 14 titles: 6 with Cal, 5 with Brown, and 3 with Yale.
- The Princeton Lightweights, both men and women, are favorites–though you know how lightweight racing can go. If both Tiger crews win, it will be just the second time the same school has won both Lightweight National Championships, and the last time was way back in 1997, the first year of the Lightweight Women’s event, when Harvard and Radcliffe won together.
- The D3 Men’s Championship will be adding a 2V event in this, it’s second year. Defending champ Williams is the top seed again this year in the 1V, as well as in the new 2V event.
