Here are this week’s tips.
IRISH THORN (Race 2 No 5) Started $61 on debut however his run was terrific when hitting the line better than anything late to be beaten just 1-3/4 lengths finding the 1000m too short. Should relish the step up to 1200m and considering the hot favourite here, Wally West finished less than a length in front of Irish Thorn in the race in question, it screams of a big price miscalculation. The barriers are reversed in our favour and surely Irish Thorn is open to more improvement than a seven start maiden. Rates massive overs at $5. BET: EACH-WAY
CANFORD (Race 3 No 1) It’s been 454 days since his last win however if he is going to win another race then this is it. The step up to 2500m is ideal while also appearing well weighted with 56.5kg after Alana Livesey’s 3kg claim. Canford’s two previous runs this track and distance have resulted in strong second placings and an indication of his staying ability was demonstrated when he took out the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes last campaign. Shapes as the sharp improver and rates at $4. BET: WIN
PICARGO (Race 6 No 3) Resumes here coming off a consistent and personal best campaign. Another that will benefit from Alana Livesey’s 3kg claim, he looks well in at the weights with just 55.5kg. He has solid fresh figures and excellent 1200m stats. The favourite Outback Action will be hard to beat but this handy six-year-old is worth consideration. Rates at $6 BET: EACH-WAY
HEARTY LASS (Race 6 No 12) Ok we aren’t supposed to be tipping two horses in the same race however it would be amiss of me not to include this mare. Covered more ground than the early settlers and the run should be forgiven when well beaten first-up. She’s a mare that hasn’t won for a long time, 587 days in fact, but she has plenty of ability when right, plummets from 60kg to the 54kg limit finally draws a favourable gate. She must be included in all exotics. I have her rated at less than $20 so she goes into everything. A small speculative play. BET: EACH-WAY
DANCING STREAM (Race 7 No 12) Another horse that I reckon is massive overs. She isn’t the most genuine or consistent of types however if she does bring her A-game, she’s right in this. Given even luck she should have won a similar race to this when resuming last preparation and then won in town at her following outing. This is an open race however if she can produce either of the two fresh ratings from this campaign, I have her marked $7.50. I recommend you play on a 1 by 3 basis. BET: EACH-WAY
SCENIC HOST (Race 9 No 11) Honest mare that has returned in fine style this campaign despite being winless from three runs. The two third in her last two starts in country Victoria have been super, hitting the line strongly on each occasion. She now gains the services of the in-form Jason Holder and the step up to 1400m for the first time looks ideal while the spacious Murray Bridge track is another tick. Open race again but represents great value. Rates at $6. BET: EACH-WAY
