In the Boys Cup final, reigning Queensland champions Ignatius Park College defeated The Cathedral School 15-6 to earn the right to defend their title in Brisbane in August.

With an additional 15 teams competing across the five divisions, Northern regional coordinator of the Vicki Wilson Championships Brendan Wendt said the day was a huge success.

“It’s fantastic to see so many boys and girls get involved and watching the elite competitions today there was some really quality netball on display,” Wendt said.

“The boys game is developing as well, we had eight teams up from five last year and there’s a lot of interest from the boys in developing the sport.

“At this stage they’re using it as a second sport to have a bit of fun but still wanting to be competitive with it, but obviously the goal is to get some of these boys to have netball become their number one sport.”

SMMC’s senior team were too strong for Ryan Catholic College in the grand final, holding on for a 20-15 victory.

The renowned college’s junior team had a more convincing, yet still toughly contested, win over Townsville Grammar School 20-13.

In the Cup Development final Bowen State High School beat Calvary Christian College 13-9 and in the Shield Development decider Calvary Christian College defeated Townsville Grammar 20-2.
