Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:
- The family of 35-year-old Lashawn Thompson, an inmate who died in a bedbug-infested cell at the Fulton County Jail in 2022, released the results of their independent autopsy. The family’s local attorney, Michael Harper, said the independent autopsy determined that the cause of Thompson’s death was cardiac arrhythmia due to criminal neglect. Attorney Ben Crump demanded the county make a radical change and described the jail as “a cancer at the heart of Fulton County.” (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. announced that the City of Johns Creek, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), and the Atlanta Regional Commission are collaborating on a new Connected Vehicle Deployment Program. The program will add CV infrastructure to Johns Creek’s existing traffic signal system. Jacobs Traffic Manager Kim Williams said, “Connected vehicles will allow drivers to navigate to their destination while avoiding hazards and responding to traffic conditions. This program furthers Johns Creeks’ shift to proactive traffic signal management and is a step toward infrastructure for a more optimized traffic signal network.” (MarketScreener)
- The City of Johns Creek is seeking community input on the city’s revitalization plan for the Medlock Bridge Road at State Bridge Road intersection. Provide your input at a meeting on Thursday, Jun. 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 11360 Lakefield Drive or use the online interactive tool here.
